🍌 Materials for the Free Banana Crochet Pattern
The materials below are the ones I used to make this crochet banana. However, you can easily substitute them with similar yarn and materials you already have at home.
You can also change the size of your banana by using thicker or thinner yarn together with an appropriately sized crochet hook.
Small Cotton Banana – Approximately 8 cm / 3 inches
For a small banana or banana keychain, you will need:
- Yellow cotton yarn
- Green cotton yarn
- Brown yarn
- Black yarn
- Synthetic fiberfill
- 2.5 mm crochet hook
Yarn Colors Used
- Yellow – Yarn and Colors Must-Have, color 014
- Green – Yarn and Colors Must-Have, color 084
- Black – Yarn and Colors Must-Have, color 100
You can use a similar sport-weight cotton yarn if these exact colors are not available.
Large Chenille Banana – Approximately 18 cm / 7 inches
For a larger and softer banana plushie, you can use:
- Yellow chenille yarn
- Green chenille yarn
- Brown chenille yarn
- Black chenille yarn
- Synthetic fiberfill
- 5.0 mm crochet hook
This version makes a much larger and softer crochet banana that is perfect as a cute plush toy.

Banana
Starting the Banana
Begin with brown yarn.
Rnd 1: Start with 6 sc in a magic ring. (6)
Change to green yarn.
Rnd 2–4: Sc in all 6 stitches. (6)
Change to yellow yarn.
Rnd 5: Sc, inc in the next stitch; repeat 3 times. (9)
Rnd 6: Sc in the next 2 stitches, inc in the next stitch; repeat 3 times. (12)
Rnd 7: Sc in the next 2 stitches, inc in the next stitch; repeat 4 times. (16)
Rnd 8–20: Sc in all 16 stitches. (16)
😊 Adding the Banana Face
This step is optional, but adding a little face makes the banana extra cute!
If you want to give your banana a face, embroider two small eyes using black yarn.
Place the eyes around Rounds 10 and 11, leaving approximately 3 stitches between them.
Then embroider a small mouth with black yarn between Rounds 11 and 12.
You can make the expression happy, surprised, sleepy, or whatever style you like!
🍌 Shaping the Banana
Continue crocheting with yellow yarn.
Rnd 21: Sc in the next 2 stitches, dec; repeat 4 times. (12)
Rnd 22: Sc in the next 2 stitches, dec; repeat 3 times. (9)
At this point, start adding the synthetic fiberfill.
Make sure you stuff the banana firmly enough to give it a nice shape, but don’t overstuff it.
Rnd 23: Sc in the next stitch, dec; repeat 3 times. (6)
🧶 Finishing the Banana
Cut the yarn, leaving a long enough tail to close the opening.
Using your tapestry needle, weave the yarn through the front loops of each stitch from the final round.
Pull the yarn gently until the opening is completely closed.
Insert the needle into the center of the closed opening and weave the remaining yarn through the banana to secure it.
Trim any excess yarn.
Finally, use brown yarn to embroider the bottom of the banana.
